A Day On My Own

This morning we went down to Abbey Road to get our picture taken. It was early and a little stressful as we tried to dodge traffic. But it was fun and I am glad that we went.

Then we went to class and learned about WWI and WWII and it was really interesting. I learned so much, I can't believe how devastating WWI was to Britain and the rest of Europe. I find history so interesting and to learn about it from a different perspective was really cool!
Then afterwards I just had to get out and I needed to be on my own. I love living with 40 people, but sometimes I just need my own space and so it was really nice to go venture off for awhile. Yesterday was the 100th anniversary that Britain declared war and entered into WWI. So there was a huge memorial at the Tower of London. I went there and it was an amazing sight to see.
There are 888, 246 ceramic red poppies. Each one symbolizes the deaths happened because of WWI. It was so cool to see. I spent a long time just wandering around, getting pictures. I definitely have a better appreciation for WWI. I didn't understand it much before, but seeing the effects that it has had on this country are quite astounding.

After the tower, I wasn't ready to head back home so I decided to walk around a little. I did get lost, but once I got my bearings around me I knew where I was going. I wanted to go on the bank of the Thames to collect some sea glass. It was really fun! I really just like being by myself and thinking and hanging out. It seriously was so nice. I love how I know where I am going in London and can just jump on the tube and go anywhere.
I can't believe that this is my last week in London. It is so sad to be leaving, but I am excited for the rest of my adventures throughout the continent.

  1. I loved the picture of Abbey Road. The tower of London must be a busy and somber place right now. I am glad I bought the book on WWI at the imperial war museum - it is grim reading about so many deaths. Great post!
