Dover and Canterbury

Today we spent the day in Dover and Canterbury. It was an absolute beautiful day, we could not have asked for better weather. We went to Dover first and went to Dover Castle. While there, I got to take a tour of the underground tunnels that were used during WWII. It was really cool learning about what they did down there. It was used especially as a communication headquarters. Dover is also very significant at the Battle of Dunkirk. That is when the French and British armies were surrounded by Germans in Dunkirk, France. Admiral Ramsay used a strategy called, "Little Ships" to save the men. Around 300,000 men were rescued when about 45,000 were estimated to be rescued. Pretty remarkable!

Got this picture for Michael. They have guns all over the castle that they used in WWII to fight of the Germans from invasion.

It's hard to see, but you can see France on the other side of the channel!
Then we went and toured the castle. This castle was built during King Henry II's reign.

The wind was a little crazy
After Dover, we drove a few minutes to Canterbury. This is the town that Chaucer wrote his poems about. This is the ruins of St. Augustine's Abbey. It was cool to see.
This is Karlie and I love her!
We then went to the Canterbury Cathedral. It was very cool and very old. We saw the place that Thomas Beckett was martyred.
I really liked these places. I learned a lot about British History and loved seeing the historical sights.

Cheers
