I know that I say this every post, but every day it is true. Today was fantastic and probably one of my favorites so far. We stopped by good ol' St. Paul's Cathedral. I don't know what I was expecting when we went inside, but it wasn't what I saw. Unfortunately we couldn't get pictures of the inside of the building, but it sure was magnificent. When we got there I started singing Mary Poppins, "Feed the Birds." Well that song has stayed in my head all day.
The interior was just as impressive and exquisite as the exterior was. Mosaics and paintings covered the dome, the alters were beautiful and it was very spacious. One thing that moved me and I found super interesting was in a chapel, they had a small monument for the American soldiers that lost their lives in WWII. Actually, learning about St. Paul's during WWII is really interesting. I can't believe that it stayed up during the blitz. They had special guards that looked for bombs trying to attack St. Pauls.
Then we walked up 367 stairs to get to the Whispering Gallery. This is in the dome and you can hear someone whisper to you from across the way. That was really cool and we did that for a little while. And then we hiked up a few hundred more stairs to get to the Stone Gallery and Gold Gallery. This is the smaller dome that is on top of the large dome. It overlooks all of London and is just amazing. Total stairs including the ones we took to the Whispering Gallery was 528. I think I got my workout in for the day.
Me, Brooke, Mallory
Seriously though, the view was amazing and I loved it!
Me "on the steps of St. Pauls..."
Unfortunately, you can't actually feed the birds, so that was a killjoy. But I still loved being there!
We then went on a walk through the city of London. We saw this building, the Swiss Reinsurance Building and many others. We walked through London's equivalent of Wall Street and had a good time there. I think it is so interesting how London's modern structure looks next to the old structures. You can see this in this picture.
Then Mallory, Annalise and I went to Primark. Seriously, Primark is amazing!! We spent time looking around and shopping and that was fun. We came back to do some homework and I took a nap. It is so hot here though and there is no AC that I have just been sticky all day. I guess I can't complain though because the weather has been fantastic since we have been here.
Well that's all for today, Cheers!
